Jeremias Ledesma helped save a fan’s life with heroic deeds in the the league clash between Cadiz and Barcelona Saturday evening.
In the 81st minute, a supporter suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed at home at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla.
The game was delayed for just under an hour before the remainder of the game was played.
Cadiz have now issued a statement in which they have detailed the whole incident.
“At the end of the 81st minute, the match against Fútbol Club Barcelona was interrupted due to a health alert in the south stands. The protocol established with the Red Cross quickly became operational, the assistance to a man in cardiac arrest,” the statement begins.
“One of the medical teams with a defibrillator and a monitor moved to the stands, starting resuscitation tasks. At the same time, Fútbol Club Barcelona offered a second defibrillator in case its use was necessary, moved in the area by the players themselves.
“The resuscitation was positive after a few minutes and the ventilator was transferred to intensive care at Puerta del Mar Hospital where he remains admitted.
“Furthermore, one of Tribuna’s cameramen suffered a fainting condition which was also promptly treated by stadium medical staff without major consequences.
“The entity wishes to thank the exemplary behavior of the fans of the South Fund in this situation, as well as the members of the security and the Red Cross for their rapid action so that this incident ends well.”
Cadiz goalkeeper Ledesma deserves a lot of credit for his actions.
The Argentine goalkeeper sprinted to the touchline to retrieve a defibrillator. He then rushed back and threw him into the pit.

The match ended 4-0 against Barcelona, with Frenkie De Jong, Robert Lewandowski, Ansu Fati and Ousname Dembele on target for the Catalan giants.
Barcelona are now top of La Liga. Cadiz are at rock bottom, having failed to score a point or score a goal in their first five games.
