PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The body discovered Wednesday on a Delaware college campus is that of a missing Philadelphia woman who was last seen Jan. 5, police say.

Authorities said the body of Kim Ezell, 59, also known as “Darlene”, was found at Delaware Technical Community College – Stanton Campus in Newark.

Police found the body in a vehicle in a fenced area behind the school.

“We were hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst,” Ezell’s sister, Michelle Hall, said.

According to Ezell’s children, she was last seen on Jan. 5, the same day her roommate, Stanley Lawton, 78, was murdered in their home in the 1700 block of West Allegheny Avenue.

Philadelphia police have arrested Walter M. Heard, 31, in connection with Lawton’s death. Heard was charged with murder and other related offences.

Ezell’s children said he was the son of the landlord, whom their mother rented to.

Days before she disappeared, Heard allegedly harassed Ezell for rent money, but she asked for a paper rental agreement first.

“She was asking for a lease and he wouldn’t bring the lease. And he kept saying, ‘You know, you’re going to bring me money, or I’m going to bring it to you,'” the daughter of the victim, Jameelah Ezell.

Although the cause of death has not been determined, sources told Action News that a bullet was found near his body.

No one has been charged in connection with his death at this time.

Relatives say Ezell had worked for many years for a home care service providing care for the elderly.
