Eyes Big In Energy-saving Housing Program | Visakhapatnam News

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh government has formulated India’s largest energy efficiency project in its housing program – Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu-Jagananna Colonies.
The state government will provide cost-effective energy-saving appliances (four LED bulbs, two LED tubes, and two energy-saving fans) to each beneficiary of the housing program.
The state government is constructing 15.6 lakh houses in the first phase of the Jagananna settlements program. These devices are expected to save 734 units of electricity per house per year. The energy savings would be worth 350 crores for all the 15.6 lakh houses combined.
Special Chief Secretary (Housing), Ajay Jain, said that for the first time in India, the AP government has taken an initiative to facilitate the best quality energy efficient appliances at very cost effective prices. “Besides saving on energy and electricity bills, it would improve the quality of life for the occupants of these 15.6 lakh homes,” Ajay Jain said.
The state housing department has offered to embark on the procurement of energy efficient appliances with the support of Andhra Pradesh State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation (APSEEDCO) through ‘Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of four central public sector enterprises.
EESL demonstrated energy efficient devices such as LED bulb, LED tube and BLDC energy efficient fan to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during a review meeting a few days ago. The Chief Minister suggested to the EESL that there should be no compromise on the quality of the products and instructed the Housing Department to finalize the arrangements for supplying the devices.
Faced with this, the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation Ltd approached the EESL for which the latter agreed to supply these devices at 30 to 35% cheaper than market prices.
State Housing Minister Jogi Ramesh said Andhra Pradesh will set an example for the whole country by building YSR Jagananna settlements by providing the best social infrastructure.
“This infrastructure will include secretariats, health centers, schools, colleges, libraries, shopping complexes, parks, community halls, banks, stadiums, religious buildings, dumps, cemeteries, etc. The state government spends 4,128 crore on water supply, 7,989 crore on electricity and internet, 10,251 crore on laying CC roads, 7,337 crore on building drains, etc. in the settlements of Jagananna. In total, about 34,309 crores will be spent to provide the best infrastructure for the houses in Phases 1 and 2,” Ramesh said.
