About 2,535 Guamanians will receive tax refunds totaling $8.3 million, according to a news release.
The Department of Revenue and Taxation processed tax returns filed before February 10 for the 2021 tax year and prior years. These error-free statements were mailed or filed by the Department of Administration.
“The ongoing goal is for all error-free tax returns to be paid within one month, to a maximum of six weeks, from the date of filing,” the press release said.
Officials also noted in the press release that anyone receiving a direct deposit payment will see a $0 transaction in their bank account before receiving their refund (pre-note).
This initial transaction is intended to test the account before the DOA attempts to deposit the actual amounts into the accounts of taxpayers who have noted a preference for an electronic deposit instead of a paper check for their refund. Officials also noted that in some cases, electronic filings can take a few weeks.
